The rain continues! I was planning to make it to Eminence tonight, but thunderstorms started just as I pulled into Ellington, so I decided to stop for the night. My smug willingness to ride in thunderstorms is a thing of the past, I think! 😁
It’s just as well I stopped, though, because I had installed my front brake pads incorrectly, and they were not working very well. While I was fixing them, I accidently pushed the “piston” out of the Avid BB7 brake, and it took me twenty panicky minutes to fix it. In the end, I prevailed!
When I first realized there was something wrong with my brake, I was trying to fix it by the side of the road, and another tourist, Mark Gutierrez, came by and offered to help. He is on his way to San Diego, via a meandering route of his own.
While we were stopped, one of the TransAm racers, Josh Mace, also crossed the road and offered to help.
I thought it was fixed, but it wasn’t, as I discovered coming down a long hill. Oops. It is fixed now!
Much of my ride today was through Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, which is beautiful.
Still no live armadillos. Mark mentioned they are mostly active at night, so I probably won’t see one. 😢
