Trans Am, Day 94: Riggins, ID to Council, ID

I had a little crash today, but I think I am OK. You know how the shoulder on a chipseal road can be loose gravel that looks very similar to the pavement? Well, that is what got me! I had to decide whether to go left or right to go around a large hunk of truck tire tread, and chose wrong.

I got a scrape on my left shin, a gash in my left knee (same exact place I injured it in November!) and I think I may have broken or dislocated my left pinkie, which I don’t seem to use for anything!

And my bike is fine!

Other than that, today’s ride was scenic, but I miss the ample shoulders I’ve had for the last few days. US95 has lots of traffic around here, and they are very impatient!

Yet another change of scenery. After the climb from Riggins, the landscape was dominated by cattle ranches.

Peter and Elizabeth Heinz tracked me down. They are in Idaho for a short getaway. So fun to see friends in the middle of nowhere!

This is Mike. He has done the Northern and Southern tiers, and many other solo tours. This summer he is doing the Selkirk Loop. He turns 70 next week. We had breakfast in New Meadows together.
