Trans Am, Day 64: Cañon City, CO to Guffey, CO

Today was a short day. I didn’t want to push too hard to reach the next town, Hartsel, and I knew I was going to have lots of climbing.

And I did have lots of climbing!

So I planned to stay in Guffey, and I am glad I did! The town’s character is dominated by the Guffey Garage, which has a cabin for cyclists. Bill Soux owns all of the interesting buildings, cars and other attractions in town, and I talked to him for a couple hours. He hates what outsiders are doing to Guffey, and his property taxes. I don’t blame him.

I met Monster, the black cat who is mayor of the town, but didn’t get a photo!
