Trans Am, Day 74: Saratoga, WY to Rawlins, WY

Today was a short day, because there are no places to stay for another 44 miles after Rawlins, so I am going to take advantage of it by doing some maintenance: wash clothes, wash water bottles and replace my chain.

The first twenty miles were great: wide shoulders and no traffic. The second twenty miles were not great. 13.5 miles were on I-80, which would have been fine, but 8 or 9 miles were being repaired. This put all the traffic on the eastbound lanes, and semis were whizzing past me with only a couple feet to spare. There was nothing they or I could do – that was all the available room. I had to stop watching them in my mirror because it was too nerve-wracking. On top of that, I got to experience my first really fierce headwind in weeks. But I made it alive! 😁

Awesome tool find on the shoulder of Interstate 80! I abandoned it at the truck stop in Sinclair, Wyoming, next to the fiberglass dinosaur, if anyone wants it!

These luxuriously wide shoulders of the first twenty miles gave way to a freeway construction zone. 😉
