  • Pacific Coast, Day 19: Westport, CA to Point Arena, CA

If you like rolling hills, this is the route for you!

From Westport to Fort Bragg, there was almost no traffic and there was a really nice trail entering Fort Bragg.

From Fort Bragg until CA 1 split from CA 128, there was a lot of fast traffic, but the shoulder was reasonably wide.

CA 1 from the split was a real treat. It’s hilly, but not brutal – except for one ridiculous hill with a couple switchbacks that hit 17% grade, but was mercifully short. Also, when I went up it, I was at the end of a very long line of cars that had been held back by a bridge repair crew, so I didn’t have to worry about cars for a while, which was a huge relief.

The views of the ocean were gorgeous, but I also love the farmlands on either side of the highway.

Almost at the end of my ride, I met Colton, Mei and their dog Yoshi. They had seen me earlier in my ride and just wanted to cheer me on. They were going to pick wild blueberries!

I also met a herd of really curious cows!
