  • Trans Am, Epilogue: My wallet was returned!

As most of you will recall, I lost my wallet on August 3rd. That story is here: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?page_id=586933

On August 13th, I noticed a private message on Instagram. It was from an account that had never posted anything, which seemed a little odd. Also, it was dated August 4th (the day after I lost my wallet), but I am pretty sure it wasn’t in my Instagram inbox until the 13th, because I use Instagram almost every day. I don’t usually check my private messages, but it would be unusual to miss it for 9 days.

The message had a phone number to call, but at that point, I didn’t have phone service – only WiFi – so I couldn’t call. The user offered to send it back, and I confirmed my address, and told them to keep the cash in the wallet (if it was still there). But I didn’t hear from them again, so, given the odd choice of communication, I decided I’d probably never hear about it again.

But the day after I returned from my journey, I checked the mail, and there it was! And the cash was still in the wallet!

I offered to make a donation on their behalf, and they provided this: https://register.stumo.org/page/583, so I happily made a donation.

Based on the name of the Instagram account and the return address, I figured out who the finder is (note: it isn’t the person in the charity above!), but I am not going to divulge their identity. But I know who it is, and I am really thankful!
