  • Trans Am, Day 95: Council, ID to Woodhead Park Campground, ID

I am using the wifi at the Gateway store to post this, but won’t have any service until tomorrow night.

EDIT: This campground has a wifi. No running water near the tent sites, but I have reddit, so that is OK 😁.

The Gateway Store is properly called “Gateway to Hell’s Canyon.” It is a couple miles from my campground for the night.

I rode over another pass this morning. It was a really gentle ascent, followed by an awesome descent into another unusual environment. This side of the pass is dominated by huge brown mountains, dotted with volcanic outcroppings, with cottonwood trees along the river in the center.

Mormon Cricket.I was climbing over Brownlee Pass, north of Cambridge, Idaho.I started seeing these HUGE BLACK crickets. There were more and more of them! I realized the ones on the road were eating the remains of their relatives who had gotten squished by cars. I saw one dragging off a snake's shed skin!At their densest, I could see hundreds on the road! Even I was a little relieved when they started thinning out and eventually disappeared!

I am pretty sure my pinkie is broken, but I am also pretty sure I can live with it!
