According to the Internet, “Wyoming” means “at the big river flat” in the Munsee language, but I think the scholars might be mistaken. I suspect it means “really windy place from all directions!”
I am not complaining, though. Wind is something I grew up with, in Georgetown, Colorado, where the wind is constant and powerful. I think I have the ability to just tune it out, and music and audio books also help.
By leaving early, I beat most of the stiff winds, plus I just love watching the sun rise!
My day ended in Jeffrey City, which has one restaurant and no stores. So I stopped at the restaurant, the Split Rock Bar and Cafe. Not only was the food superb – real home made french fries – but the company was awesome too! Friendly cowboys and oil-rig workers who all knew each other but were also friendly to oddly-dressed cyclists!
This is the highlight of my day. While I was sitting in the Split Rock Bar and Cafe, Uncle Charlie came in, following this wonderful dog, “Pig.”
Pig walked straight to me, and I spent most of the following half hour petting him. Everyone who came in knew him, and he got petted by everyone. He is an extraordinary dog. 😁
