Today’s ride had two highlights:
First, there was the climb up Old Scenic Highway 101. No shoulders, but it didn’t matter, because there was virtually no traffic. It felt so much like my Seattle home that I almost forgot to take pictures.
Second, I made it to the PACIFIC OCEAN!
While I was at the beach, I leaned my bike against a metal post. I had to muscle it to this spot, because the sand was loose and deep. When I retrieved it, my left rear pannier was caught on the post. I didn’t realize the resistance was my pannier – I thought it was the sand – and wrenched it free. This caused one of the three bolts that holds the pannier to the mounting system to pop out. I broke my pannier, with less than 400 miles remaining!
BUT WAIT! I carry extra nuts and bolts! So I took everything out of the pannier and FIXED IT! I haven’t yet had a problem I couldn’t fix myself (knock on wood!), and this makes me incredibly happy!
