Trans Am, Day 15: Lexington, VA to Daleville, VA

When I got up, I was planning to visit the Natural Bridge. Along the way, I stopped and talked to Marilyn, a very friendly and interesting woman I encountered while she was picking kale from her garden. Then, probably preoccupied with my recent conversation, I missed the turn. When I realized it, I didn’t feel like backtracking.

The roads were quiet and scenic with lots of rolling hills. Possum Hollow and Plank Road had lots of freshly downed trees, branches and leaves, evidence of a fierce storm I am happy to have missed.

When I reached Daleville, I expected to sleep in the Greenfield Recreation Park, and got permission from the city, but when I got there I was informed there were no open bathrooms and no water. My water bottles were empty, so I was forced to head back to Daleville and get a room at a Howard Johnson (they still exist!).

Outside, I met David, who was waiting for a tow truck for his broken Harley Davidson. David was on his way home to El Paso after an epic ride to support veterans, called Run for the Wall, which you can read about here: https://www.rftw.us.
