Sunshine! OK, it was cold this morning (as low as 42°F!), but it was really nice to stay dry all day!
I left the long steep hills of Appalachia behind, at least for a couple days. Today’s ride was through beautiful rolling hills and lush farms. On some stretches of road, I didn’t see a single vehicle.
I stopped at a gas station to restock on carbs and fluids, and Leroy and Chad called me over. They were utility workers, and had just replaced a snapped telephone pole. They didn’t seem to be in a hurry to get back to work, and I asked them what they were going to do next. Leroy pointed at the truck in the parking lot, and said his supervisor was sleeping, and would let the know what they were supposed to do when he woke up. According to Chad and Leroy, this was a daily occurrence. The boss did an hour or two work per day, and just sat in the truck, sometimes sleeping. We all agreed it sounds boring.
I knew one of the ACA camping spots is the Bluegrass Texas Longhorn Ranch, so I was hoping to see the Longhorn cattle. I was not disappointed. I think the baby Longhorns were unusually cute and inquisitive.
After I stopped for the day, I visited a laundromat to catch up on dirty clothes, and walked to the drugstore while my clothes washed. I saw two cyclists whiz through the intersection, and when I got to CVS, they were in the parking lot! They are both headed east on the TransAm, both started in Pueblo, CO, and they just met today! Even more amusing, their wives are riding support for them, and both are named Gina! Unfortunately, I forgot their names.
