Trans Am, Day 57, 58, 59, 60: Taos, NM to San Luis, CO

I spent the last three days in my hometown, Taos, New Mexico. My sister drove up from Albuquerque and we spent our time visiting friends, eating New Mexican food (chile and sopapillas), reminiscing, performing some minor bike service and restocking. It was a nice break, but I am glad to be back on the road!

So I am retracing my route back to Pueblo, CO and the TransAm trail. Today’s ride was harder than the same segment was on the way to Taos, but tomorrow’s should be easier than it was in the other direction.

This picture is me trying to look cool, and I realize it falls embarrassingly short in that regard, but I don't care!Anthony Suazo was my first best friend. We were neighbors on Dragoon Lane, near downtown Taos, NM. We spent most of my first day in Taos together, and I met his wife, Cindy, and his son, Reyes. He's a good guy, and really liked his family. It was so awesome to reconnect!

Pebbles decided I was her buddy instantly. She is so sweet and trusting, and she loves to cuddle!

I have known Roger Martinez since we were kids. His aunt, Diana Valerio, and my mom, have been friends since high school. He's an artist, writer and a good man.

This view of the Rio Grande Gorge, just south of the "horseshoe curve" is one of the iconic views of Taos Valley beloved by locals who are coming home from the south.

Hollyhocks at the San Francisco de Asis church in Ranchos de Taos. I didn't notice my shadow was in the picture until I saw it on my laptop. Oh well.

I found this socket on the side of the road, but it is unusual, because it isn't a regular hexagon. Any ideas?

Colorado Highway 159 has lots of these dirt roads that go off into the mesas for as far as you can see. There aren't fresh tracks on most of them, and no signs whatsoever. This would be a wonderful place to explore on a gravel bike!
