Trans Am, Day 62: Walsenburg, CO to Pueblo, CO

This was probably the least exciting day of my entire journey so far. 40+ miles of this short day were spent on I-25. On the trip to Taos, I tried to avoid the interstate and use frontage roads parallelling it, but that ended up being really unpleasant, because some of these roads are really bad. So on the return trip, I stayed on the interstate until just before Pueblo. The shoulders are wide, there is little debris, and the pavement is smooth. I have no regrets! But I didn’t take any pictures either. 😁

At home, I am a volunteer for Cascade Bicycle Club, and one of the things I do is act as an Outrider on large event rides. This means I help people when they have a problem, such as a crash, mechanical issue or a flat tire they can't fix. When I was a few miles from Pueblo, I heard this guy yell something from the side of the road. I realized he was asking for help, so I pulled over. Gary's front tire was flat, and he didn't have a tube, patch kit or pump, so I fixed it for him. It's the first flat I've had to fix on this journey (knock on wood!). I found out he used to live in Bellevue, WA and was a bouncer in a bar in Woodinville, long before I moved to Washington.

Another tool find, this one on the interstate! A square-tipped nut driver.
