Trans Am, Day 90: Lolo, MT to Lochsa Lodge, ID

Today’s ride up Lolo Pass was another unexpectedly cold ride. At this point, I only have myself to blame for cold rides being unexpected! It was 34°F for a long time, and I chose not to stop to dig out warmer clothes, so I don’t think I have any grounds to complain. 😁

However, Lolo Pass is beautiful! I was a little worried about visibility when it looked like I was riding into fog or low clouds, but the mist hovered above the ground, and drivers gave me plenty of space. I had a strange incident of harassment, however: Someone threw something at me from a passing pickup truck. It hit me between the shoulderblades, and it really stung. I turned around to ride back and see what it was, and it was a mini-muffin. What a strange thing to throw at a cylist!

I am spending the night in a cabin at the wonderful Lochsa Lodge, which is in the middle of nowhere. Naturally, there’s no mobile phone service in here, and no wifi in the cabin (I am in the main lodge using their wifi to post this, so I will talk to everyone tomorrow!

The aftermath of the Lolo Peak Fire, I think.

Roadside tool find: A paint can holder! Handy, but I had to leave it behind. 😢

Into the clouds! Thankfully, they never quite engulfed me, because I was worried about trucks.

Nick is riding with Judy and John, but is on his way to South Dakota. He didn't cross the road to chat, so this is the best picture I could get!
