There was an epic thunderstorm last night, and I was glad to be sleeping indoors. The roads were dry when I left, and the air was damp and cool.
Coming from Washington state, I was curious about the free ferry across the Ohio River at Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. I had seen pictures, and it was exactly what I expected: room for a couple cars. It only takes a few minutes to cross the river.
I am determined to stay indoors while there are thunderstorms every night, so my daily distance is constrained by lodging options. I really only had one choice tonight, and it was going to be a short ride, so I took some time to look around. I stopped for breakfast in Cave-in-Rock and talked to some locals, and everyone agreed there was only one interesting thing around: the Cave-in-Rock Park. So I went there. I didn’t find the cave, but I enjoyed the ride through the park and stopped for pictures of the Ohio River.
Later, I saw two women riding towards me. They were dressed indentically and riding identical bikes. Lynn and Cindy are riding from San Diego, CA to Yorktown, VA. They have relatives supporting them, but neither was really an avid cyclist be for this. I LOVE that!
I am staying in a house tonight. Sort of like an airbnb, and I am all alone. It has a screened porch overlooking the Ohio River. It is wonderful! We are supposed to have a magnificent thunderstorm tonight and I hope to see it from here! No wifi though, and barely any cell service.
